Motorists get further reprieve as fuel prices drop this month

Petrol, diesel, illuminating paraffin, and LPGAS prices have all decreased, offering some relief to consumers amid ongoing financial pressures.

According to the department, petrol prices dropped by up to 76 cents per litre, while diesel prices saw a reduction of as much as 90 cents.

These changes are driven largely by falling international oil prices and a stronger rand, which averaged R18.30 against the US dollar during the latest review period—an improvement from R18.50 the previous month.

Here are the new fuel prices effective 2 April 2025:

Inland pump prices:

  • Petrol 95: R21.62 per litre (↓ R0.72)
  • Petrol 93: R21.51 per litre (↓ R0.58)
  • Diesel 0.05%: R20.68 per litre (↓ R0.84)
  • Diesel 0.005%: R19.35 per litre (↓ R0.86)

Coastal pump prices:

  • Petrol 95: R20.83 per litre
  • Petrol 93: R20.72 per litre
  • Diesel 0.05%: R18.69 per litre
  • Diesel 0.005%: R18.59 per litre

While the price cuts are attributed to lower global oil prices and the rand’s improved strength, certain levies have increased.

As of Wednesday, 2 April 2025, the Fuel Levy is set at R3.99 per litre for petrol and R3.87 for diesel. The Carbon Fuel Levy has increased by 3 cents per litre, while the Road Accident Fund Levy remains unchanged at R2.18 per litre.

Transport tariffs have also been adjusted by up to 7.5 cents per litre, depending on the zone.
