A new documentary released by TMZ claims that pop star Justin Bieber sold his entire music catalog for $200 million because he was facing financial collapse. The documentary, titled “TMZ Investigates: What Happened to Justin Bieber,”reveals shocking details about the singer’s money problems, his marriage to Hailey Bieber, and the people who allegedly tried to stop the sale.
‘TMZ’ documentary claims Justin Bieber is broke
According to TMZ, Bieber made between $500 million and $1 billion during his rise to fame, but the documentary says he “blew it all.” By the end of 2022, Bieber was reportedly under extreme financial stress and felt he had no choice but to sell his music rights.
Selling music rights means giving someone else the legal ownership of your songs. That person or company then earns money whenever those songs are used, like in movies or commercials. Many artists sell their catalogs when they retire, but Bieber did it much earlier in his career, which surprised many people.
Sources told TMZ that Bieber’s former manager, Scooter Braun, warned him against selling so soon and advised waiting until January 2023 for tax benefits. However, Bieber went ahead with the deal in December 2022.
The documentary also claims Bieber owes Braun about $9 million, and around $32 million to companies AEG and HYBE, which were involved in his cancelled Justice World Tour.
One insider said the singer had to borrow a pastor’s credit card to pay for a round of golf.
Scooter Braun points to Hailey Bieber as source of Justin’s downfall
The documentary features interviews with people close to Bieber, including Braun, who reportedly blames Hailey Bieber for many of Justin’s recent troubles. It’s claimed that she pushed for expensive lifestyle changes, including demanding a private jet that matched Kylie Jenner’s.
When offered a smaller aircraft, Hailey allegedly refused to fly in it.
TMZ investigators say the couple’s marriage has been under pressure for a long time, and they are now living in separate homes. A source told Hollywood Insider reporter Rob Shuter, “They love each other, but they’ve been dealing with a lot.”
Issues include Justin’s erratic behavior and emotional instability, which have reportedly created distance between him and Hailey. On top of this, the documentary says Hailey remains obsessed with Selena Gomez, Justin’s former girlfriend. According to sources, Hailey constantly compares herself to Selena, creating emotional strain in the relationship.
The couple shares a nine-month-old son, Jack Blues. Although they haven’t officially split, sources say Hailey is focused on her own peace and may seek custody of their child if things get worse.
Divorce, however, is not being discussed “right now.”
