Rumours have been spreading online that D4vd, the 20-year-old singer behind the hit Romantic Homicide, was arrested after a dramatic police car chase in Los Angeles.
Watch: LAPD car chase not linked to D4vd
Some even claimed the chase was connected to the death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas, whose body was found in the trunk of a Tesla registered to the artist.
But police have now cleared the air: the car chase that was broadcast live on US television on Thursday had nothing to do with D4vd or the Rivas case. The chase was connected to a completely separate murder investigation.
Despite speculation, D4vd has not been arrested. He is currently still on his North American and European tour for his debut album Withered.
His team released a statement saying he had been “informed about what’s happened” and that although he is on tour, he is “fully cooperating with the authorities.”
This means that while his car is at the centre of the investigation, the singer himself is not a suspect at this stage.
What’s the latest in the Celeste Rivas murder investigation?
The case took a dark turn earlier this month when police in Los Angeles found the body of Celeste Rivas, a missing teenager from Lake Elsinore, California.
Her remains were discovered on 8 September 2025 in the trunk of a Tesla that had been towed from a Hollywood street two days earlier. Police responded after staff at the impound lot reported a strong smell coming from the vehicle.
The Los Angeles County medical examiner confirmed Celeste’s identity. She had been missing for more than a year. At the time of discovery, she was wearing a tube top, black leggings, jewellery, and had a distinctive tattoo on her right index finger that read “Shhh…”.
What raised eyebrows was that D4vd has the exact same tattoo on the same finger. Photographs show the singer did not have the tattoo earlier in 2024, but it appeared in pictures from September of that year.
Celeste’s mother told TMZ that her daughter’s tattoo was in red ink, and she grew suspicious when she heard the car was linked to someone named David — the same name as her daughter’s boyfriend.
Still, investigators have stressed that the tattoo connection alone does not prove involvement. Detectives are waiting for the medical examiner to establish a clear cause of death, which has so far been difficult due to the body’s decomposed state. LAPD said in a statement:
“Several items of evidence were recovered and will be analyzed by detectives in the coming days. This is an ongoing investigation. Investigators are following up on several leads.”
On Thursday, officers executed a search warrant at a Hollywood Hills home where D4vd had been staying, although he does not own the property. Police seized a computer and other items for further analysis.
For now, no arrests have been made, and the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division continues to lead the case. Investigators have not revealed who last drove or parked the Tesla before it was abandoned.
At this stage, the facts are clear:
- D4vd has not been arrested or charged.
- The car chase circulating online was unrelated to him.
- Police are still investigating Celeste Rivas’s death, but the cause has not yet been determined.
Until the investigation moves forward, D4vd remains a figure connected only by circumstance — his car, the tattoo, and his presence in Los Angeles months earlier.
