E! News, a popular television show that covered celebrity and entertainment news, has been cancelled after more than 30 years on air.
E! News cancelled as TV show but will continue online
The show will officially end on 25 September 2025.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cancellation was announced to employees on Thursday morning. Tonight’s episode will be a repeat, and new episodes will return next week before the final broadcast airs later this year.
E! News originally started in 1991 and became well known for its celebrity interviews, red carpet coverage, and Hollywood gossip. It took a two-year break during the COVID-19 pandemic but returned to television in 2022.
Even though E! News is cancelled as a television programme, it will continue as a digital brand.
This means it will still produce online content on websites and social media, but it will no longer air on TV. Some of the show’s correspondents may move to Versant, a new company formed as part of NBCUniversal’s internal changes.
Their new roles, however, are still being decided.
NBCUniversal has divided its business into two groups. One group includes NBC, Bravo, Peacock, and its production studios.
The second group, now called Versant, will handle channels like E!, Syfy, USA Network, MSNBC, and others, including digital platforms like Rotten Tomatoes and Fandango. Versant will be led by CEO Mark Lazarus, with Anand Kini as chief financial officer and chief operating officer, and David Novak as chairman.
The E! television channel will not shut down completely. It will continue to broadcast other shows such as Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind and Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour.
E! also plans to launch new series like Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane and E!’s Dirty Rotten Scandals.
The channel will remain a go-to destination for live event coverage, including red carpet specials and the Critics Choice Awards.
E! News was one of the few TV shows that focused solely on entertainment journalism.
