The Diddy trial resumes with testimony expected from radio host Enrique Santos and Eddie Garcia, though Garcia is likely to invoke the Fifth Amendment.
What to expect from Day 14 of the Diddy trial
Prosecutors have signalled that Garcia could be compelled to testify under immunity as early as 08:55 EST (14:55 SAST). Additionally, discussions may continue over the admissibility of various evidence, including a video clip previously submitted by the defense.
What the court has heard thus far
On Day 13, testimony continued from Mia, a former assistant and producer for Sean Combs.
Her direct and cross-examination detailed multiple allegations of abuse and workplace coercion. Mia testified that she was frequently subjected to verbal threats, emotional manipulation, and sexual assault by Combs, often under conditions where she felt she could not quit or leave her position.
She recounted an incident in South Africa where she ignored Combs’ calls and was threatened with termination and harm.
Screenshots of WhatsApp messages and emails to Combs and his associates were submitted to support these claims.
Mia testified about being suspended without pay after Combs was dissatisfied with her work and described a deteriorating work environment upon her return from South Africa.
She described long working hours, lack of access to Combs despite needing his approval for tasks, and increasing psychological distress.
Mia stated that she attempted to flee while in St Bart’s during a holiday trip after being berated and chased by Combs, but was unable to leave due to her passport being held by staff.
On cross-examination, defence attorney Brian Steel focused on past social media posts by Mia that appeared supportive of Combs, including posts celebrating his birthday and professional collaborations.
Mia acknowledged posting these images and messages but explained they were made during times when she felt unable to express the abuse due to fear and workplace dependency.
She characterised her relationship with Combs as psychologically abusive.
The defence introduced a scrapbook Mia created for Combs as a birthday gift, highlighting her past admiration and professional closeness to him. Mia responded that such actions were part of a cycle of emotional manipulation and fear that prevented her from leaving or speaking out.
The session concluded with an examination of text messages and internal emails regarding Mia’s distress and eventual severance.
