After much delay, the 2021 Grammy Awards aired in the Western world, in the wee hours of Sunday morning and what a night it was for the queens of entertainment.
How to watch 2021 Grammy Awards repeat in South Africa
For us, in the southern hemisphere, the awards ceremony took place at the height of our sleep, at 03:00. For some, catching the highlights and trending topics on social media may be enough. But, the entire ceremony will be repeated on DStv’s channel 103 at 20:30, on Monday, 15 March.
2021 Grammy Awards: The night’s highlights
Due to safety measures that were in line with Covid-19, South African comedian Trevor Noah hosted the ceremony in an empty auditorium.
The bespoke guests, however, were seated in an outdoor venue, clad with designer face masks you probably will never find at any commoner’s retail outlet. Suffice it to say, the night was one for the books.
Here are some of the highlights we picked out:
BeyoncĂš makes history with most Grammy wins than any artist
BeyoncĂš Knowles walked away with four awards on the night, taking her tally to an insurmountable 28 wins.
Blue Ivy Carter is a Grammy-Award-winning child
The daughter of BeyoncĂš and Shawn Jay-Z Carter, at the age of nine, is the second youngest artist to win a Grammy for her contributions to her mother’s Brown Skin Girl.
Taylor Swift bags Album of the Year
Taylor Swift walked away with the most coveted award of the night. Here’s her acceptance speech.
Megan Thee Stallion walks away with three big wins
Megan Thee Stallion, a newcomer in the industry, bagged three prominent awards on the night. The Houston rapstress walked away with wins in the following categories: New Artist, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.
Lil Baby ‘Black Lives Matter’ performance
Lil Baby may feel like he was snubbed but on the night, he served a higher purpose with his goosebump-inducing performance of his hit single The Bigger Picture.
