Chloe Malle has been named the new Head of Editorial Content for American Vogue, effective immediately.

Chloe Malle takes the reins at Vogue

In simple terms, this means she is now responsible for leading the magazine’s creative direction and overall editorial strategy.

According to the fashion magazine, Malle replaces Anna Wintour, who held the top position at American Vogue for nearly four decades. Wintour will continue to serve in her global roles at Condé Nast, but her day-to-day leadership of the US edition has now shifted to Malle.

The title “Head of Editorial Content” is Vogue’s new version of “Editor-in-Chief.” The role involves overseeing all magazine content, from cover shoots and fashion features to digital strategy and social media.

Malle will also work closely with Vogue’s global editions and report directly to Wintour.

In her new role, Malle joins Vogue’s 10 Heads of Editorial Content worldwide, making her one of the most influential voices in the international fashion industry.

Chloe Malle’s background

Chloe Malle first joined Vogue in 2011 as a Social Editor, where she covered weddings, parties, and social events while also contributing across other areas such as politics, health, and beauty.

From 2016 to 2023, she worked as a Contributing Editor, writing features and leading special projects. In 2023, she became the editor of Vogue.com, where she doubled website traffic and grew the magazine’s online presence around major events like the Met Gala and Vogue World.

Malle also co-hosts Vogue’s weekly fashion and culture podcast, The Run-Through, and has written for major publications including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

Anna Wintour praised Chloe Malle’s appointment, saying she was the right choice to lead Vogue into the future.

“At a moment of change both within fashion and outside it, Vogue must continue to be both the standard-bearer and the boundary-pushing leader,” Wintour said.

“Chloe has proven she can balance American Vogue’s long history with its future on the front lines of the new.”

Wintour also described Malle as “one of Vogue’s secret weapons,” noting her originality, strong work ethic, and ability to connect fashion with broader cultural issues.

Chloe Malle on her new role

Malle expressed excitement about her appointment, saying she felt “awed” to be part of fashion’s next chapter.

“I’ve spent my career at Vogue working in roles across every platform—from print to digital, audio to video, events and social media,” she said.

“I love the title, I love the content we create, and I love the editors who create it. Vogue has already shaped who I am, now I’m excited at the prospect of shaping Vogue.”

Malle lives in Manhattan with her husband, two children, and their dog.

Chloe Malle’s appointment signals a generational shift at Vogue, one of the most powerful magazines in the world. While Wintour remains in a global leadership role, Malle now holds responsibility for steering the US edition through an era where fashion publishing must compete with fast-moving digital platforms and evolving cultural trends.
