South African actress Thuso Mbedu channelled her regal energy at the Opening Gala for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures this past weekend.
Thuso Mbedu graces red carpet in Prada
The official unveiling of the museum of movie memorabilia was a star-studded affair in Los Angeles, California, with the likes of Lady Gaga, Nicole Kidman, Spike Lee, Tom Hanks and his wife Sophia Loren in attendance.
The official opening of the museum is scheduled for Thursday 30 September 2021 and from what we understand, it will house Hollywood’s timeless films and honour the industry’s greatest artists.
Already, it’s been confirmed that legendary filmmaker Lee has a room inside the museum dedicated to his works and influences.
However, the star of the night for South Africans was Mbedu, who was at the museum rubbing shoulders with Hollywood’s elite in this yellow custom Prada gown.
“To free up storage I had to delete all the family and friends pics from 1977-2021, block any and all unfunny videos from WhatsApp, delete my spleen and use my gall bladder as a cover, and was finally able to unlock the code to the vault that holds the blood of the rooster that cock-a-doodle-do’d after Peter denied Jesus thrice,” the young actress wrote on her Instagram.
Here’s a price estimate of the custom gown
Mbedu’s designer gown is one-of-none, literally. The 30-year-old stood out with the sunflower yellow, boob-tube evening dress.
From our research, Prada has not listed the garment as an item for sale on their catalogue. Mbedu is a renowned admirer of the luxury designer. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the Underground Railroad actress splurged on a five-figure price tag to bring vibrance to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
While no official price has been linked to the custom gown, specialty items like the one Mbedu wore this weekend can fetch for anywhere between R16 500 ($1 100) and R127 000 ($8 500).
