The match will take place at the Oujda Stadium in Morocco, with kick-off scheduled for 21:00 SAST (20:00 local time in Morocco).

This Group C match comes on the heels of contrasting outcomes for the two sides earlier in the week. Banyana began their tournament with a 2-0 victory over Ghana on Monday, while Tanzania suffered a 1-0 loss to Mali in their opening game.

A win for South Africa on Friday would secure their place in the knockout stages of the competition.

Despite Banyana’s previous success over Tanzania in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifiers, coach Dr Desiree Ellis has cautioned her players not to take anything for granted.

“Obviously, we want to get a win to cement our place in the second round… We have played Tanzania before but that goes out of the window,” said Ellis.

She stressed that her team must be focused and efficient in front of goal, noting that missed chances could be costly.

Tanzania, known as the Twiga Stars, return to WAFCON after a 15-year absence, last appearing in 2010. Their coach, Bakari Shime, acknowledged the tough challenge ahead but maintained his team is ready.

“This is a different match from the opener against Mali. South Africa are the defending champions… but we are well prepared,” Shime said.

South Africa will again be without forward Thembi Kgatlana, who withdrew from the tournament for personal reasons. However, they will count on captain Refiloe Jane, who has returned to the squad after a lengthy injury. Linda Motlhalo and Noxolo Cesane are expected to play key roles in the attack.

For Tanzania, captain Opa Clement returns from suspension and will be a crucial figure alongside Janet Pangamwene. Coach Shime will be relying on an improved performance in the attacking third, where effectiveness has been lacking.

Banyana Banyana possible starting XI: Dlamini, Dhlamini, Makhubela, Mbane, Magama, Jane, Motau, Motlhalo, Cesane, Ramalepe, Seoposenwe.

Tanzania possible starting XI: Najiati, Anastazia, Opa, Julitha, Janeth, Donisia, Stumai, Diana, Enekia, Asha, Jamila.
