The Cincinnati Open is heading into its final stage, with the men’s singles final confirmed after thrilling semifinal matches on Saturday.
Sinner and Alcaraz set for another showdown at Cincinnati Open
World number one Jannik Sinner will face world number two Carlos Alcaraz on Monday, 18 August 2025, in what has become one of the most exciting rivalries in modern tennis.
Sinner booked his place in the final by defeating French wild card Terence Atmane 7-6 (4), 6-2. Atmane, ranked 136th in the world, surprised many by reaching the semifinals, but Sinner’s consistency and power proved too much.
The Italian, who turned 24 on the day, extended his unbeaten streak on hard courts to 26 matches.
Alcaraz advanced after a straight-sets victory over Germany’s Alexander Zverev, winning 6-4, 6-3.
This sets up a repeat of both the French Open and Wimbledon finals earlier this year, where Alcaraz and Sinner went head-to-head.
How the men’s singles semifinal unfolded
Sinner’s clash with Atmane began tightly, with the first set decided by a tie-break.
Atmane pushed hard, but Sinner raised his level at the crucial moments, winning the tie-break 7-4. From there, the defending champion dominated, closing the match in two sets.
Alcaraz’s match was more straightforward. He broke Zverev’s serve early and kept control throughout the match. His aggressive baseline play and quick movement allowed him to seal the win without dropping a set.
The final between Sinner and Alcaraz is expected to be another high-intensity contest, with both players known for long rallies, powerful groundstrokes, and mental toughness.
