South Africa’s Banyana Banyana will face Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the semifinals of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2025 on Tuesday, 22 July.

The match will be held at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, kicking off at 18:00 SAST (17:00 local time).

A Chance to Make History
Banyana Banyana are the current African champions after winning the tournament in 2022. If they win again this year, they will become the first team after Nigeria to win the title back-to-back.
Nigeria, on the other hand, is Africa’s most successful women’s team. They have won the WAFCON title nine times and are aiming for their tenth—something they have called “Mission X.”
South African coach Dr Desiree Ellis said the team is ready.
“There are a few things that you can tweak, and a few things that you can work on,” she explained, adding that even though past games against Nigeria give them confidence, this is a new match with new stakes.
“We have to be on top of our game.”
Midfielder Gabriela Salgado, who scored in the previous round against Senegal, said, “It’s going to be a challenge, but we are physically and mentally prepared.”
She also said the tough win over Senegal brought the team closer and made them more focused for this crucial semifinal.
Nigeria has had a strong tournament so far. They have won all four of their games and have not let in a single goal. Their most recent win was a dominant performance against Zambia in the quarterfinals.
Banyana Banyana has also played well. They won three games and drew one. Their quarterfinal against Senegal ended in a tie, but they won on penalties.
The last Banyana Banyana vs Nigeria match took place in the group stages of the 2022 WAFCON tournament. South Africa won that game 2-1, with goals from Jermaine Seoposenwe and Hilda Magaia. Banyana later went on to win the entire tournament.
