A fifth suspect is set to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 9 May 2025, following the fatal shooting of Dingalimoya Cintso, a 50-year-old man who was gunned down outside the court premises in early April.

Authorities believe the latest suspect, a 20-year-old man, may be central to the murder investigation.

Cintso was killed on the morning of 8 April 2025 on Church Road, just outside the entrance to Wynberg Regional Court.

According to initial reports, the attack was sudden and violent. Witnesses described how a group of men jumped out of a white Toyota Quantum vehicle and opened fire. The victim was struck and died at the scene before paramedics could assist him.

Western Cape police have since launched a wide-reaching investigation into the incident, which has shocked many due to the brazenness of the crime occurring so close to a court of law.

Over the past few weeks, detectives from the Serious Violent Crime Unit have made several arrests. By 24 April, the police had already taken four suspects into custody — two of them, aged 23 and 34, were arrested in the southern suburbs of Cape Town.

They were charged with murder and appeared in the same court on 25 April.

With the addition of the fifth suspect, the total number of individuals arrested in this case now stands at five. Police say more arrests could still follow, as investigations continue and more evidence is gathered.

Law enforcement officials are still working to establish a motive for the murder. Early indications suggest the crime could be gang-related, though police have not confirmed any gang affiliations publicly. At the time of the shooting, police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg stated that detectives were pursuing several leads and that organised crime links had not been ruled out.

This shooting has reminded many of a previous incident at the same courthouse. In May 2023, Christine Gumera was shot and killed outside Wynberg Magistrate’s Court. She had been scheduled to testify for the state in a murder trial.

Authorities later arrested four people in that case and believed the motive was to silence her.

As the investigation moves forward, police are urging anyone with information about the April 8 shooting to come forward. The arrest of the fifth suspect may mark a major step forward in the case, but detectives have indicated that their work is far from over.
