Provincial detectives in the Western Cape are investigating a triple murder in Kleinvlei, Cape Town.

Triple murder in Kleinvlei shocks community

Police say the shooting happened at about 00:40 on Sunday, 24 August 2025, in Daventry Street, Stradford Green, Eersterivier.

According to preliminary information, three unknown armed men entered a yard where three victims — aged between 18 and 39 — were sitting. The suspects opened fire and killed all three before fleeing the scene on foot.

Kleinvlei police have registered three separate counts of murder. At this stage, no arrests have been made.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have information about the suspects to come forward.

String of Cape Town murders in one week

The Kleinvlei murders add to a growing list of shootings reported in Cape Town in recent days. Police believe many of these cases are linked to gang violence.

Some of the most recent incidents include:

  • Bonteheuwel (18 August 2025, morning) – A four-month-old baby was shot through a window and rushed to hospital, where it succumbed to its injuries. Police suspect the shooting was gang-related.
  • Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay (17 August 2025 at 22:00 SAST) – Six people were shot in what police described as an extortion-related attack. Two victims died and four were injured. Police arrested five suspects and recovered two firearms, including an Uzi.
  • Belhar (17 August 2025) – An adult male was shot dead in Da Gama Crescent. The motive is believed to be gang-related.
  • Muizenberg (16 August 2025 at 22:30 SAST) – Three people were killed and one injured in an ambush in Mike Place, Xakabantu settlement. The victims were aged between 29 and 32.
  • Lotus River (14 August 2025) – Five bodies were discovered on the corner of Buck Road and 5th Avenue.
  • Overcome Heights, Muizenberg (13 August 2025 at 05:30 SAST) – Four people were shot dead in another suspected gang-related attack.

These killings cast a spotlight on the ongoing problem of gang violence in Cape Town, which has claimed dozens of lives in recent weeks.

The Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) was launched in 2018 to fight gangs, drug trafficking, and related murders. However, despite its presence, shootings have continued almost daily in parts of Cape Town.

SAPS spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut, speaking about the Muizenberg shootings earlier in the week, said:

“Our detectives are working tirelessly to determine the exact events that led to this incident. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”

Police have since deployed additional patrol vehicles to hotspots, but many community members say that visible policing alone is not enough to stop the bloodshed.
