The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) shutdown has taken a turn for a worse after a video surfaced on social media, showing how a large crowd of rioters stormed into a Boxer supermarket and made off with goods.

Eyewitnesses in and around the unrest taking shape in KwaMashu, and other parts of KZN, captured footage of the moment a large group believed to be linked to the ‘free Jacob Zuma’ protest looted a Boxer supermarket.

As it’s shown in the video clip, scores of people were seen dashing off with goods as many others were shoving their way through the entrance to grab whatever was left on shelves.

KZN shutdown: What’s the latest?

The unrest that’s captured KwaMashu in panic has spread out to many parts of the province. Pro-Zuma fictionalists have taken their disgruntlement with his conviction to the streets, demanding his immediate release.

Zuma lost his best chance at freedom — however slim it may have been — when the Pietermaritzburg High Court returned with a dismissal of his application for a permanent stay of prosecution in the Constitutional Court arrest matter.

Reacting to the ruling, the Jacob Zuma Foundation noted that the intention, in their decision to seek jurisdictional favour from a High Court, was “to prevent the incarceration of [President] Zuma even for one day.”

“As we speak President Zuma has already spent two nights in jail without a trial. So the High Court ruling today was purely academic,” the foundation wrote in a tweet.

Zuma’s family and close associates have, at this time, not made a statement on the unrest breaking out in KZN.
