Klerksdorp authorities will rely on this CCTV footage to identify the suspects involved in this brazen daylight robbery.

Metadata from the footage indicates the incident took place on Tuesday 10 May 2022, a few minutes before 10:00. In the video clip, taken near a African Bank branch situated on the corner of Anderson and Kock Street, a man was seen leaning against the rear of a silver bakkie illegally parked on a pedestrian sidewalk.

The man, totally distracted by the phone call he was on, could not have been aware of the two suspicious-looking men approaching him from both directions of the sidewalk.

One of the suspects, wearing a beige jacket and blue construction pants walked up to the victim and grabbed his attention, all while his accomplice was sneaking up from behind him.

In a split second, the second suspect snatched the man’s phone but, it seems, his clasp was too strong and, immediately, things turned a little clumsy.

The victim and the two men tussled for the phone until a third suspect came out of nowhere, picked up the phone and ran off, with the man chasing them.

Two other men were seen picking up items that had fallen out of the man’s pockets and while suspicion suggests they too may have been part of the robbery, this could not be verified.

From what we understand, the matter has been taken up by police and investigations continue. At this time, it’s presumed the suspects are still at large.
