Security cameras at a shop in Morningside captured the harrowing ordeal a shopkeeper and his coworkers endured for an excruciating four minutes.

Things went awry on Tuesday morning, at approximately 08:15, when four men entered the store behind an innocent shopper whose banana cravings hit him at the worst time possible.

Right when the man was exiting the store after paying for his fruit, he was shoved back inside by a gun-wielding suspect, tailed by three of his accomplices, all loaded with handguns.

Very quickly, what started out as a regular sales morning in Berea suddenly disintegrated into pure horror.

The shopper was immediately subdued in one of the isles, while the shopkeeper, trapped behind the counter, sat stoic on his chair with his hands raised.

The robbers took their liberty to an extreme, to say the least.

Two suspects hauled goods and an undisclosed amount of cash into a carrier bag, while another gunman stood at the till, casually passing around cigarette packs to walk-ins who, at first, were none the wiser about the events unfolding before them.

In a case of utter misfortune, another shopper who found himself dazed at the active crime scene got reeled into the robbery. At first, he had ample opportunity to leave the store, but for some bizarre reason, he lingered around the armed suspects long enough to irritate one of them.

Before he could even move, he too was accosted and stripped of his wallet and mobile device, after taking several blows to the face.

After a gruelling four minutes, the suspects casually strolled out of the store.

Miraculously, no one was injured in the store robbery.
