Kraaifontein police are investigating three separate double murders that took place on Tuesday, 9 September 2025, leaving six people dead. The latest Kraaifontein shooting incidents add to a series of violent attacks in the area, many of which are suspected to be linked to gangs.
According to Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the shootings happened in Wallacedene and Eikendal within hours of one another, suggesting the possibility of gang connections.
The first attack in Eikendal
At about 21:50 (SAST), police responded to a shooting at the corner of 9th Avenue and Verster Street in Eikendal.
Officers found the bodies of two men, aged 20 and 22, both of whom had gunshot wounds.
Medical personnel declared both victims dead at the scene. Police confirmed that suspects fled and have not yet been arrested.
The motive for this attack is still under investigation.
Two shootings in Wallacedene minutes apart
Less than two hours later, at about 23:30 (SAST), shots were fired in Molefe Street, Wallacedene. Two women aged 19 and 25 were killed, while a 24-year-old woman was injured and taken to hospital.
Just ten minutes later, at 23:40 (SAST), another shooting was reported in Taleman Street, also in Wallacedene.
Police found two women in their twenties with fatal gunshot wounds to their heads inside a bedroom. Both victims were declared dead at the scene.
Twigg said the possibility that the two Wallacedene shootings are linked has not been ruled out.
Earlier killing of 11-year-old girl
Tuesday’s violence comes only two weeks after another tragedy in Wallacedene, where 11-year-old Esmine Franke was fatally shot while playing outside her home.
Two others, including an eight-year-old girl, were wounded when gunmen targeted a suspected gang member but hit the children instead.
Her mother, Shahieda Franke, described the heartbreaking moment in a statement to IOL News:
“She was still alive, she couldn’t talk, she squeezed my hand. When the ambulance got here, they treated my brother who was hit in the legs, and then they realised that Esmine was no longer alive.”
Police confirmed the shooting was gang-related and are still searching for suspects.
