Killarney Gardens shooting: Here’s the latest
Heavy congestion was seen in and around the busy street, on Friday, as a result of the dramatic scenes that unfolded at a nearby industrial park.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, distress calls rang from one of the businesses in the industrial park, where four suspects had taken staff members hostage in an intense robbery.
Instead of running away, the brazen robbers went head-on with a team of SAPS officers who were assisted by a private security company.
Unfortunately, in the midst of the fiery encounter, one of the officers was shot in the head, while his partner suffered gunshot wounds to the leg.
“Sadly, a 48-year-old police sergeant from Table View, who sustained a gunshot wound to his head, died on arrival at a medical facility in the area,” Potelwa said In a statement.
At this juncture, all that has been indicated is that motorists are advised to try, by all means, to avoid Potsdam Road, in Table View, as the street is still an active crime scene.
