The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumes today in the Pretoria High Court, where the defence is expected to call a new witness as proceedings continue in the long-running case concerning the 2014 killing of the Bafana Bafana captain.
The previous week of proceedings centred on the testimony of Absalom Zungu, whose disputed 2019 statement has become a critical point of contention in the matter.

Police have long maintained that Zungu provided a statement in November 2019 linking accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, and accused number two, Bongani Ntanzi, to the shooting.
That document was described as a breakthrough in the investigation.
However, in a reversal that unfolded last week, Zungu denied having made such a statement and claimed that details attributed to him were fabricated.
He further alleged that his son, Constable Sizwe Zungu — who previously testified as a key state witness — had collaborated with police to produce the contested document.
The defence closed Zungu’s evidence at the end of last week, setting the stage for the next phase of testimony.
The earlier sessions also included tense exchanges between defence counsel Advocate Charles Mnisi and presiding Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng, with disagreements arising over the handling and significance of the disputed statement.
Mnisi has argued that the 2019 document reflects broader investigative irregularities, while the State maintains it was legitimately obtained and shaped the direction of the inquiry.
With Zungu’s evidence now concluded, today’s focus shifts to the defence’s new witness, who is expected to address aspects arising from last week’s testimony.
