On Wednesday morning at 08:27, a 23-year-old Zimbabwean delivery biker was urgently transported to the hospital after collapsing in Ottawa, KwaZulu-Natal.
In a statement, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) revealed that an emergency call came in from Project 360, a private security provider, requesting immediate assistance.
The man was found lying on the ground, incoherent and severely ill.
According to the biker, he had consumed a pie earlier, which he claimed was handed to him by an ex-colleague.
After consuming it, the biker became violently ill and rushed to his sister’s workplace in Verulam, KZN, seeking help.
He arrived screaming that he was about to die before collapsing and experiencing multiple seizures.
First responders from RUSA and paramedics arrived at the scene and attempted to gather information.
However, the biker became unresponsive, complicating their efforts to ascertain further details.
Suspected ex-colleague’s involvement in the poisoning
The delivery biker informed first responders that his ex-colleague was responsible for poisoning the pie.
The ex-colleague allegedly insisted on him consuming the pie immediately, which led to the biker’s sudden and severe illness.
The motive behind this suspected poisoning remains unclear, but the biker’s sister confirmed that her brother was convinced of the ex-colleague’s involvement.
Upon arrival, the biker was already in a dire state, experiencing seizures and incoherence, making it difficult for the paramedics and Reaction Officers to get more information from him.
The man’s sister witnessed his distress and collapse, further corroborating his claim that he had been poisoned.
The biker was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. The ex-worker has neither been identified nor apprehended by authorities.
