Max’s Lifestyle, the crown jewel of Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) confirmed in a statement that business would operate as usual.
Max’s Lifestyle confirms doors remain open
In a statement, the popular township restaurant revealed that owner Max Mqadi, who was viciously targeted in an attempted assassination, is recovering well in hospital.
“It is with a sense of relief that we wish to confirm that the founder and owner of Max’s Lifestyle Village, Max Mqadi, survived an attempt on his life last night (Thursday),” the statement read.
According to the businessman’s family, the two unknown gunmen released gunfire on Mqadi, at close range while he was leaving his shisanyama establishment.
Images surfaced on social media, claiming that the only thing that stood between Mqadi and death was his iPhone 12 Pro Max device. Unverified rumours suggest that the businessman was on his phone when the attempted assassination took place.

“We wish to take this opportunity to relay our heartfelt gratitude to all South Africans and the global community who have expressed messages of support to Mr Mqadi… We also wish to confirm that Max’s Lifestyle Village remains open for business and will operate as normal,” the family wrote.
Police have yet to issue an update on the attempt murder investigation. At this juncture, the two suspects behind the vicious attack are still at large.
