Makause mass murders: What investigators know

As reported by News24, local authorities were called out to Makause, an informal settlement in Germiston, Ekurhuleni, after at least seven dead bodies were discovered in different areas.

At this stage, police are careful not to reveal too much about the evidence collected thus far. Therefore, at this juncture, it’s yet to be confirmed if there are any suspects in the Makause mass murders.

We also can’t confirm if any persons have been taken in for questioning. Perhaps, the most puzzling aspect of the Makause horror is establishing whether there was a link to the seven murders, all believed to have been committed around the same time since, the bullet-ridden corpses were discovered shortly after a series of gunshots were heard by residents on Monday morning.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Kay Makhubele could only confirm that the victims were all aged above 30 and that the investigation is looking into the possibility of the Makause mass murders being related.

With regards to motive, authorities have said nothing but renowned crime reporter Yusuf Abramjee indicated in a tweet that the killings may be linked to Zuma-Zama turf wars that have ravaged the area for years.

No suspects were arrested at the time this article was published.
