The family of Lebo Mniki, who went missing on 29 August 2025, has staged a picket outside the Respublica Princeton Village student accommodation in Midrand.

Family demands answers in search for Lebo Mniki

They are demanding access to CCTV footage from the building, where Mniki was last seen visiting his girlfriend.

His relatives say they became alarmed after his employer called to report that he had not reported for work that Friday.

Concerned, they began contacting friends and discovered he was last seen entering the student residence.

Since then, there has been no confirmation of whether he left the premises.

“He was seen going in, but not going out”

Speaking to reporters, Mniki’s sister, Vuyokazi Ntuthu, said her brother’s disappearance is out of character, describing him as a reliable person who would not simply vanish without explanation.

She explained that friends confirmed his last known movements and that he was visiting his girlfriend. However, when the family asked her for clarity, she allegedly refused to give them any answers.

“The frustrating thing is the lack of transparency and people not willing to cooperate, and it makes me question what they are really hiding. If I am innocent, I would want to clear my name and say I am not a part of this,” Ntuthu added.

According to the family, residence staff confirmed Mniki was seen entering the building but could not confirm if he was seen leaving.

The family believes CCTV footage could provide crucial answers but claim the residence has refused to release it.

The Midrand Police Station has opened a missing person’s case. Authorities have not released further details but confirmed that the case is under active investigation.

Police are expected to review all available leads, including whether surveillance footage can be obtained as part of the inquiry.

Frustrated by what they describe as a lack of cooperation, Mniki’s relatives have set up camp outside the student residence, saying they will not leave until they are given clear answers.

The family hopes their action will pressure the management of the residence to hand over the footage.
