A tragic incident unfolded in Hammanskraal, Gauteng, on Thursday morning when  Kgaugelo Marota was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend outside a tavern.

Boyfriend admits to stabbing Kgaugelo Marota

The man reportedly attacked Marota multiple times with a knife before fleeing the scene.

Following the attack, the suspect posted a confession online, sharing a detailed account of the events and attempting to explain his actions.

On Facebook, he wrote:

“They may judge me, but you and I know the truth, you ruined us, as I posted everything on the app it will prove that. RIP. I promised you till death do us apart after I fought for your life. Will forever love you Mmamogashwa.”

In a separate TikTok video, he apologised for the killing and claimed it was not his intention to end her life. He said he tried everything to make the relationship work but blamed the victim’s mother for pressuring her to take out protection orders against him.

“I tried by all means to make things work between me and her…I’m sorry for what I did. It’s just that I cannot reverse what I did. I’m supposed to be raising and loving my kids,” he said.

In South Africa, protection orders are legal documents designed to keep someone safe from abuse or harassment.

They can restrict a person from contacting or approaching the victim. In this case, the suspect claimed he had been subject to protection orders, which he said contributed to tension in the relationship.

Family responds to the viral confession

Kgaugelo Marota’s father also addressed the suspect’s posts on social media.

He expressed grief and outrage over his daughter’s death:

“Kgaugelo was my child. She was born in the 2000s and she has been killed by her boyfriend… I saw her body in the pathology service vehicle, and I’ll be burying her next week Saturday,” he said.

This case draws parallels to a similar event in December 2024, when Sibusiso Lawrence from Scottburgh, KwaZulu-Natal, shared graphic images and a video after killing his girlfriend, Nontobeko Cele.

In that case, Lawrence admitted the crime on camera before later dying by suicide.

The police are investigating Kgaugelo Marota’s death, and the suspect’s social media posts may be used as evidence.
