Kabega Park: Discovery of couple’s decomposing bodies sparks manhunt

Eastern Cape authorities have launched a 72-hour activation plan in a bid to fast-track investigations into the discovery of a couple’s decomposing corpses in Kabega Park, on Monday.

What happened to the Kabega Park couple?

In a statement, Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg pleaded with the Kabega Park community for assistance “assistance in tracing the next of kin of an unidentified couple found murdered in the bushes near the N2 freeway (Greenbushes) [on Monday].”

Careful not to reveal too much about what is currently known at this juncture, police confirmed the couple’s body was reported to police at approximately 09:00 after an unidentified man stumbled on the gruesome scene in a bushy area near the N2 highway.

“On arrival, an unknown male was found sitting in front of a tree with his neck tied to the tree.  A second body, a female was found about 5 meters away. She was lying face down on the ground. Both bodies were in the early stages of decomposition,” Capt. Van Rensburg explained.

Post morterm examinations will offer detectives working on the case more information on the victims’ identities, as well as clarity on the exact cause of deaths, albeit all indicatiions suggest the couple was murdered.

Moreover, Capt. Van Rensburg revealed that according to preliminary examinations, it’s believed the victims are aged between 20 and 35.

“SAPS Kabega Park detectives have implemented a 72 hour activation plan following double murders near Baywest yesterday, 11 July 2022. Both the deceased are still unknown,” the statement read.
