KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) homicide investigators are racing against time to track down the suspects involved in the Folweni mass shooting that left six victims dead.

Folweni mass shooting: Seventh victim clinging onto life in hospital

As reported by IOL News, a hail of gunshots were heard coming from a residence on Mngadi Road in Folweni, south of Durban, on Sunday evening. Bizarrely, police were only called out to the property on Monday morning and according to police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker, it was a gruesome crime scene.

“Six bodies, which consisted of four men and two women aged between 26 and 32, were found inside the house with multiple gunshot wounds. They were all declared dead at the scene,” Brig. Naicker said.

A seventh victim was discovered and, miraculously, clinging onto life. Naicker confirmed the unidentified woman was quickly rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

“A 27-year-old woman who was still alive when police arrived was taken to a local hospital for medical attention,” the statement read.

A provincial investigative unit has been assembled to escalate the probe into the Folweni mass shooting, as fears continue to grow in the region.

While police are yet to stumble on a hot lead that could lead to arrests in the murder investigation, KZN top-cop Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is adamant that the Folweni mass shooting holds the hallmarks of a gang-related crime.

“Whilst we are still investigating the motive behind the killing, we suspect that it may be related to criminality in the area. We are appealing to the community to come forward with information that will assist in identifying those behind the killings,” he added.

This is a developing story.
