The search for Disebo Mosupa, a 30-year-old Acting Youth Development Officer at Matjhabeng Local Municipality, ended in tragedy when her body was discovered buried in Welkom Cemetery.

Mosupa was reported missing on 12 July 2024, prompting a widespread search by family, friends, and authorities.

Mosupa’s father initially reported her missing after visiting her residence on Sunday, 14 July 2024, and finding all doors locked with no sign of her.

The following day, he returned to find the doors open and the house ransacked, further intensifying the search efforts.

Despite thorough searches and public appeals for information, it was not until recently that her body was found in the cemetery.

The circumstances surrounding Mosupa’s disappearance and death are currently under investigation. Authorities are working to piece together the events that led to her untimely death and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The case has heightened fears in the Matjhabeng Local Municipality and the broader Free State region, where missing persons cases have become alarmingly frequent.

On average, three individuals are reported missing each week in the province. The most recent case involves 15-year-old Cavin Edwin Kulue, who disappeared from the Riebeeckstad Care Centre in Welkom on 17 July 2024.
