A team of Cape Town police were lauded for their swift action in preventing a Claremont business robbery this past weekend.
Dramatic car chase ends in arrests for Claremont business robbery suspects
On Saturday, 21 October 2023, at around 11:20, a unit from the SAPS’s Flying Squad in collaboration with members of the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police, responded to a tip-off concerning a suspicious black Toyota Yaris.
The vehicle, suspected to have cloned registration plates, was spotted with only one occupant, later identified as the driver of the getaway car involved in the Claremont business robbery.
As officers approached the vehicle, three men hastily exited a nearby store and entered the Toyota Yaris, which promptly sped away from the scene.
This triggered a high-speed chase that culminated near Palmeira and Campground Road in Claremont, where the vehicle was successfully boxed in and brought to a standstill by the law enforcement team.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers discovered three firearms, various clothing items, bedding, cellular phones, and a substantial amount of cash.
The four individuals in the vehicle were immediately arrested and detained at the Claremont police holding cells.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects had just executed an armed robbery at a store in Claremont.
“The possibility that the four could be involved and possibly linked to other serious crime, are being investigated,” Cape Town police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie confirmed.
The arrested suspects, aged between 25 and 45, are slated for their initial court appearance at the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 23 October 2023, facing charges related to armed robbery, possession of prohibited firearms, fraud, and possession of presumed stolen property.
