Women’s Day was a dark and sombre affair in Brown’s Farm where the body of a female was found on a waterlogged field in the Cape Town township.
Brown’s Farm woman found murdered
While the rest of the country was bellowing from the burrows in celebration of a holiday that pays tribute to women, a 34-year-old female was raped and killed in the most brutal manner.
According to Cape Town police spokesperson Andre Traut, the lifeless body of the woman was found by Philippi residents in the wee hours of Monday morning.
The unidentified victim was naked and according to preliminary examinations, it is suspected that she was sexually assaulted.
Everything we know about the suspect
At this time, the cause of death has not yet been revealed. However, according to Traut, a male suspect has been arrested and charged with murder.
In a statement, the police spokesperson revealed that at the man believed to be responsible for the death of the 34-year-old woman “was arrested after he was caught and beaten up by community members.”
From what we understand, the unidentified suspect was targeted by Brown’s Farm residents after it was determined that he was allegedly the last person seen with the victim before her body was discovered at 01:00 on Women’s Day.
According to locals, the man was traced to his home which is not far from the location the victim’s body was found, and when he was hauled from his room, multiple witnesses claim they saw blood on the t-shirt he was wearing.
This, coupled by eyewitness accounts on the last time the victim was seen alive, was enough circumstantial evidence to convince the community that the male suspect was responsible for the woman’s death.
Police intervened and arrested the man as he was being assaulted by a mob of angry locals.
At this time, the suspect’s identity remains unknown. His name and face will be made public after he’s appeared before the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and rape.
“The circumstances are being investigated,” Traut said.
