Benoni police are investigating a vicious gun attack that left an e-hailing driver fighting for his life on Wednesday morning.

Benoni e-hailing attack: Driver possibly shot by passengers
Details around the incident are still sketchy at this time, but from what’s been reported thus far, it’s believed an unidentified e-hailing driver sustained multiple gunshot wounds during an Uber trip in Rynsoord, a Muslim community situated at the heart of Benoni, in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to crime reporter Yusuf Abramjee, this early on in the investigation, it’s believed the e-hailing driver was accosted by passengers while he drove along Main Reef Road, an area renowned in Benoni as a ‘smash and grab’ hotspot.
While no further details have emerged on the suspects, Benoni police believe two individuals were likely involved in the attack. At this time, it is unclear if the e-hailing driver was the target of an attempted robbery or if, perhaps, this was a hit that didn’t particularly go according to plan.
The e-hailing driver was rushed to a nearby medical facility, and at the time this article was published, it’s believed he was fighting for his life.
Benoni police have yet to surface with more information on the incident. Our requests for comment were not met with a response at the time of this article’s publishing.
