A peaceful drive down a main road in the northern suburbs turned into horror for this Beetle driver, who came face-to-face with an ill-tempered taxi driver earlier this week.

While details around the incident remain, for the most part, sketchy, the events that unfolded in several video clips posted on social media showed how an unarmed civilian was accosted by a weapon-wielding taxi driver who may have been the transgressor in the road rage incident.

From what is seen in the video clip, the Beetle driver had right of way to stay on the lane he’d occupied since, at the intersection, the traffic lights were open for him to drive straight ahead.

Things went horribly left for the Beetle driver when, at an intersection, a white taxi carrying passengers almost rammed into him from the rightmost lane.

The viral video clip, which you can watch below, shows how the Durbanville taxi, totally ignorant to the rules of the road, forced his way out of the rightmost lane and onto the Beetle driver’s path.

The close encounter resulted in a fiery exchange of cusses between the Beetle driver and the Durbanville taxi.

Things quickly turned violent when the taxi driver forced the Beetle to a halt in the middle of the road and approached the vehicle carrying a blunt object.

Before the civilian motorist could de-escalate the situation, the unidentified taxi driver smashed the Beetle’s windows.

Fortunately, the road rage incident ended without any injuries, albeit, the Beetle was left with most of its windows shattered.
