Video footage taken by the unidentified e-hailing driver, where he confronts a female passenger who, right before he started filming, had allegedly offered her body as compensation for a trip from Khayelitsha, has since gone viral on social media.
In the clip, the driver probes the unknown woman on her options since, right at the end of the trip, he was informed that she did not have the cash available to settle her bill.
The woman casually asks the e-hailing driver for a charging cable so she can power up her phone which, it’s presumed, was flat.
“People say Uber drivers, they are wrong. But, it’s you guys who started. I drive all the way from Khayelitsha and coming here, you don’t have money…” the man says.
When the woman makes repeated pleas to be sent back to her house so she can charge her phone, the driver vehemently refuses.
“I can’t. I will just go to the police with you. They will decide the case,” the driver adds.
The viral clip ends abruptly and it remains unclear what the conclusion of the confrontation was, at the time this article was published.

In this case, the two female passengers had booked an e-hailing trip without switching the payment method over to ‘credit card’. Things quickly escalated into an alleged assault perpetrated by the driver when the passengers informed him of the mistake.
At the time, Uber South Africa had acknowledged the incident and vowed to do its best to “create a better environment for all the app users in South Africa.
