The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has confirmed that they are looking into the case, which left the victim with head and body injuries, per Sowetan.

The incident occurred at approximately 18:00 on a Friday, 8 September 2023, and it was captured on video, raising concerns about police brutality and the treatment of individuals in custody.

In the video footage, two police officers are seen outside the police van, and a man later identified as Milosh Basson of Kensington is handcuffed to the back of the van.

Several residents can be heard shouting while he stands next to the two officers, one of whom is locking one of the van’s doors.

Robbie Raburabu, a spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), commented on the situation, stating:

“IPID is aware of the case and appointed investigators to deal with the matter. Preliminary investigations indicate that three members will be investigated. Investigation is still at an infancy stage.”

This incident has raised significant concerns about police conduct and the treatment of individuals in custody.

While the investigation is still in its early stages, the video evidence has generated public outrage and calls for accountability.
