Sea Point swimming pool closed: Here’s everything we know
According to a statement from the City’s community services and health Mayco member Patricia Van der Ross, the sinkhole was caused by a collapsed water line.
The pool will remain closed for critical excavation and repairs until November.
Van der Ross stated:
“For a proper assessment of the damage and to determine the exact scope of work required for repairs, the entire water line must be unearthed.”
She assured residents that health and safety measures, including signage and fencing, are in place to prevent accidents.
The community has been encouraged to make use of alternative swimming facilities in the meantime.
“We apologise to the facility users for any inconvenience caused and will work as speedily as possible to ensure this amenity is up and running soon,” said Van der Ross.
Sea Point ward councillor Nicole Jowell added that efforts are being made to limit the closure duration:
“All efforts will be made to minimise delays and restore access as soon as it is safe to do so.”
