Comic Con Cape Town 2025 commenced on Thursday, 1 May, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC 2), marking the start of a four-day celebration of pop culture, gaming, and cosplay.
The event featured a variety of activities, including celebrity panels, gaming tournaments, and interactive experiences.
Main highlights from Day 1
The opening day included a welcome from the City of Cape Town, emphasising the city’s support for creative industries and its role as a host for international events.
Attendees had the opportunity to meet Zach Aguilar, known for voicing Tanjiro in Demon Slayer and Aether in Genshin Impact, who shared insights into his voice acting career.
Anime content creators Aki Dearest and The Anime Man also held a panel discussing their experiences in the anime community.
Cosplay enthusiasts participated in the Casual Cosplay Competition, showcasing a range of costumes inspired by various characters. International cosplayer Yuji Koi conducted a session on costume crafting and performance.
The KidsCon Zone, presented by Toys R Us, featured character meet-and-greets with Mario and Luigi, Geoffrey the Giraffe, and the Smurfs, providing family-friendly entertainment.
Gaming activities included the Heroes of the Pitch tournament hosted by Telkom VS Gaming, offering competitive play for attendees.
What to expect from Comic-Con Cape Town Day 2
On Friday, 2 May, the event will continue with a fan briefing by DJ Elliot, providing attendees with an overview of the day’s activities.
The schedule includes additional panels with Zach Aguilar, Aki Dearest, and The Anime Man, as well as a spotlight on international cosplayer Mayo Cosplay.
The KidsCon Zone will host meet-and-greets with characters such as Mario and Luigi, Geoffrey the Giraffe, and the Smurfs. Educational sessions like “Internet Safety for Kids” and “Ask an Astrophysicist with Daniel Cunnama” are also planned.
The day will feature a behind-the-scenes look at the film Spelonk, including discussions with creators Mr Mallum and Eric Uys, followed by a screening of the film.
Attendees can also participate in the Quiz – Alien/Predator and enjoy various gaming experiences throughout the venue.
Comic Con Cape Town 2025 runs from 1 to 4 May at CTICC 2.
