According to Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), the outage is impacting runway lights, airside fire rescue, and air traffic navigation services.

“Kindly note that Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) is currently experiencing a power supply challenge impacting runway lights, airside fire rescue and air traffic navigation services. As a result, flights are not able to land or depart,” the statement read.

Technicians are currently onsite attempting to identify and resolve the issue.

Flights en route to Cape Town are unable to land, creating uncertainty for pilots and passengers alike.

Departures to both regional and international destinations are also heavily impacted.

As the situation develops, ACSA is advising travellers to download their mobile app and subscribe to their airline for live flight updates.

FlySafair has issued a statement regarding the impact of the power outage at Cape Town International Airport.

The airline was alerted to the outage at approximately 20:30. At this stage, FlySafair is engaging with ACSA to understand the cause and expected duration of the outage.

“FlySafair’s Operations team is hard at work to minimise the impact of these delays. We await information from ACSA as to when Cape Town International will be operational again. Once this is understood, our teams will plan new departures and arrange landing and departure slots from the airport,” the airline noted.

In the interim, no flights are able to land or depart from Cape Town International Airport, affecting all airlines operating to and from this airport.
