Cape Town is gearing up for the 15th annual Cape Town Carnival, taking over the Green Point Fan Walk on Saturday, 15 March 2025.

What to expect at the Cape Town Carnival 2025

This year’s theme, “WowZA!”, is a shoutout to South Africa’s diversity through dance, music, and art.

Expect a high-energy parade featuring hundreds of local artists, performers, and community groups, each bringing their unique flavour to the streets of Cape Town.

New to the lineup this year:

  • The DHL Stormers – Cape Town’s beloved rugby team will be making their first-ever appearance on a themed float, “Taking the Cape by Storm”.
  • Erika Januza – The Brazilian actress and Queen of the Drums from Rio Carnival will bring international flair to the parade.

Cape Town Carnival CEO Jay Douwes has described the event as “the most life-affirming experience of the year,” and with 15 years behind it, the carnival continues to cement itself as a major fixture on the city’s cultural calendar.

Other notable guests include:

  • Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis
  • Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs & Sport, Ricardo McKenzie
  • Representatives from the National Department of Sport, Arts & Culture

The event is free and open to the public, but expect crowds—last year’s edition drew thousands of spectators.

Expect delays if you’re driving in the area and plan your route accordingly.
