The Cape Town Carnival is set to dazzle the Green Point Fanwalk on Saturday, 16 March 2024, and along with the vibrant festivities, there are several road closures to expect.
Here’s what to expect from the Cape Town Carnival 2024
The theme for the 2024 edition of the Cape Town Carnival, “Lekker,” a celebration of Cape Town’s diverse cultural landscape.
Jay Douwes, CEO of the carnival, announced the theme, explaining that it was chosen to encapsulate the essence of Cape Town’s identity, a cocktail of diversity, culture, and humour.
Fans can expect over 1 400 performers across 44 groups, including marching bands and dance crews.
Acting Cape Town Mayor Eddie Andrews added that the carnival not only serves as a marquee attraction for tourists but also offers a platform for local performers to gain confidence and visibility.
Entry to the carnival is free, with the option to purchase tickets for seats along the parade route for an enhanced experience.
