Trevor Noah gets standing ovation at White House Correspondence Dinner [video]

The comedian roasted the world's most powerful leader.

South African-born comedian Trevor Noah was serenaded with raucous cheers for his stellar performance at the White House Conference Dinner (WHCD).

White House Correspondence Dinner highlights

This was the first gathering in commemoration of the United States’ (US) first amendment in two years, and even more importantly, the first dinner to host a president and a comedian MC in six years.

The Daily Show host held back no punches in delivering a well-seared roast to key political figures, celebrities in attendance, such as Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian, and President Joe Biden, himself, whom he applauded for the increase in fuel prices.

Perhaps, the key moment that garnered Noah a standing ovation came after 25 minutes of meticulously executed banter, when he reminded US media about the importance of their duty, as bastions of democracy.

“Ask yourself this question: If Russian journalists who are losing… their freedom for daring to report on what their own government is doing, if they had what you have, would they be using it in the same way that you do?” he asked.

Here are some of the reactions to Noah’s impassioned speech:
