A man accused of attempted robbery was targeted by a mob outside Parklane Spar in Pietermaritzburg, on Monday, and the entire ordeal was caught on camera.

Passers-by witnessed commotion outside the shopping complex, where an unidentified man was beaten to a pulp by angry shoppers and security officials.

Details around the incident are still very sketchy, and despite our best attempts, Swisher Post News was unable to ascertain specific information on the incident from Pietermaritzburg police.

However, from what we understand, the unidentified man was accosted when he allegedly attempted to flee from the Parklane Spar.

It’s alleged that the suspect had wielded a knife and threatened a cashier inside the store, in an attempt to grab whatever he could from the cash register. When his attempts failed, the man allegedly sprung for the exit but was caught by two security officials.

In a desperate attempt to bail, the man is said to have stabbed the security guards, whose respective condition was unknown at the time this article was published.

A failed alleged robbery turned into an absolute nightmare for the suspect when, in the midst of his escape, he was caught by concerned witnesses. In the video embedded below, a large crowd had gathered around a bakkie the suspect was tossed in.

It’s unclear, at this time, if the alleged Parklane Spar robber was arrested and sent to a nearby medical centre for treatment of his wounds.
