Watch: Heathrow Airport tarmac invader caught on camera [video]

A man was caught on video running across the Heathrow Airport tarmac before being arrested.

A video showing a man sprinting across the tarmac at Heathrow Airport has gone viral online, capturing the attention of aviation enthusiasts and casual viewers alike.

Man filmed disrupting tarmac operations at Heathrow Airport

The footage, filmed on Sunday and posted to the Big Jet TV YouTube channel, shows the man being pursued by airport staff before eventually being detained by police.

The clip begins with what seems to be a quiet moment at the west London airport, but quickly escalates as a lone figure appears darting across the taxiway.

A commentator behind the camera can be heard saying:

“What’s going on here? Why would there be people running across the tarmac?”

That question quickly answers itself as two high-visibility airport workers begin chasing the man.

The on-foot pursuit, lasting about a minute and a half, ends when a van pulls up beside the scene.

The man, perhaps realising the game is up, halts his escape attempt. Moments later, police officers arrive and pin him to the ground before placing him under arrest. He is then escorted into the back of the waiting van.

In the video, the person filming continues to provide colorful commentary:

“That geezer’s running from someone. They are chasing him. What are you doing mate? Get on the floor, son, give yourself up.”

A spokesperson for Heathrow Airport confirmed the incident and assured the public that it had no impact on operations.

“Working with partners, we have quickly resolved an incident at the airport involving an individual who accessed the airfield taxiway. The individual has been removed from the airport. The airport continues to operate as normal and passengers are travelling as planned,” the statement read.

The motives behind the man’s unexpected sprint across the airfield remain unclear, but airport officials have confirmed that the matter is being handled by law enforcement.
