What the PSL said about Royal AM’s fixtures
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed that Royal AM’s matches in the DStv Premiership and the Nedbank Cup remain on hold due to the club being placed under curatorship by the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
The latest affected fixture is the Nedbank Cup match against Chippa United, which has now been postponed indefinitely.
In a statement, the PSL apologised for the disruption but said it has no choice but to delay Royal AM’s games until further notice:
“Further updates will be communicated as soon as the issues impacting the fixture have been clarified,” the league said.
The league has not confirmed whether Royal AM will be able to resume matches or if further disciplinary action will be taken against the club.
Why Royal AM Is being sold
The decision to sell Royal AM FC follows a high-profile tax investigation into the club’s owner, Shauwn Mkhize.
Authorities allege that Mkhize swindled more than R37 million from SARS. The investigation escalated on 1 December 2024, when law enforcement raided her La Lucia home, seizing 40 firearms and over 200 rounds of ammunition, allegedly linked to her private security team.
Motorists posted viral videos showing her fleet of luxury vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, Ferrari, Maserati, and Rolls-Royce Ghost, being towed away following the raid.
Mkhize has not been formally charged, but the seizure of assets and the SARS curatorship over Royal AM have resulted in the club being unable to function financially.
With Royal AM now officially up for sale, the future of the club remains uncertain as the PSL awaits further legal clarity before making a final ruling on its status in South African football.
