The game combines elements of naval combat, exploration, and roguelike gameplay — which means each run is different, and when you die, you start over, but you keep some progress.

The story drops players into a world beyond death, where you sail the “Hereafter” in a mysterious ship. Your job? Hunt souls and fill up your vessel with ghostly power.

As the player, you are not a hero — you are a servant to a force that wants these souls collected, and how you navigate that responsibility is part of the narrative’s moral grey area.

Gameplay is designed around three key ideas:

  1. Ship Combat: Battles happen on the open sea, where you shoot, dodge, and use powerful abilities to sink enemies.
  2. Upgrades & Builds: Each time you play, you find different relics and weapons. This means no two runs feel the same, and you must adapt to what you get.
  3. Choices Matter: As you collect souls, you’ll face decisions that influence the story. Will you stay loyal to the entity that guides you, or will you question your mission?

The game has a hand-drawn art style, described by IMPRESS as “moody, detailed and full of personality.” The soundtrack features haunting melodies that change depending on the region you’re in and how much chaos you’ve caused.

According to the studio, Void Sails is not just about shooting and looting.

“We wanted players to think about what they’re doing, not just how they do it,” a developer note reads.

Void Sails is currently available for PC users through the Steam platform. South Africans can purchase the game by:
