Tshwane tornado: Here are the latest updates

Several buildings, vehicles, and other properties were damaged, particularly in Montana, Pretoria North.

The City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department confirmed that response teams, including firefighters and disaster management officials, were deployed to assist affected residents.

The tornado, which was initially reported as a flooding incident on Tuesday evening, uprooted trees, destroyed carports, and ripped off corrugated iron roofs along Sefako Makgatho Drive.

A residential complex on Veda Street near Enkeldoorn Street was among the hardest-hit areas. Multiple buildings sustained severe damage, with upper floors left exposed after their roofs were blown off.

Rainwater seeped into the structures, causing additional water damage. Some residents had to be evacuated and are receiving temporary shelter while officials assess the extent of the damage.

Fire and rescue teams were also dispatched to other areas, including Mabopane and Pretoria North, where reports of flooding were received.

Authorities confirmed that, despite the destruction, no injuries have been reported so far.

Residents have been urged to take safety precautions, including staying indoors during severe weather, avoiding metal objects that may attract lightning, and moving to higher ground if water levels rise.

Motorists have also been warned about slippery roads and reduced visibility.

Disaster management teams continue to assess the damage, and emergency services remain on high alert for further incidents.
