The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued the following weather warnings for Tuesday, 3 December 2024:

  • Fire Danger Warnings:
    • Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over:
      • Free State.
      • North West.
      • North-eastern parts of the Northern Cape.
      • Gauteng.
      • Western Bushveld and Lowveld of Limpopo.
      • Highveld of Mpumalanga.
  • Advisories:
    1. A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, central and eastern parts of North West, northern Free State, and northern KwaZulu-Natal until at least Friday, 6 December 2024.
    2. Extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions can be expected in the Lowveld of Limpopo and Mpumalanga, the Western Bushveld, and the Valley of Limpopo from Tuesday until Saturday, 3–7 December 2024.

  • Gauteng: Fine and hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. Very hot in the north. UVB Index: Very High
  • Mpumalanga: Partly cloudy along the escarpment in the morning, otherwise fine and warm to hot. Very hot to extremely hot in the Lowveld, becoming partly cloudy on the Highveld in the afternoon.
  • Limpopo: Fine and hot to very hot, but extremely hot in places in the Lowveld, Limpopo Valley, and the Western Bushveld. Partly cloudy over the south-western parts in the afternoon.
  • North West: Fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy in the east by the afternoon.
  • Free State: Cloudy in the extreme east at first, otherwise fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the eastern parts by the afternoon.
  • Northern Cape: Cool along the coast, otherwise fine and hot to very hot, but warm in the south where it will become partly cloudy in the afternoon. Coastal winds fresh to strong southerly.
  • Western Cape: Partly cloudy and warm, but cloudy and cool along the coast, clearing from the west by the afternoon. Light rain in the western parts in the morning and east of Mossel Bay in the afternoon. Coastal winds light north-westerly along the south-west coast in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh west to south-westerly. UVB Index: Very High
  • Western Half of the Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy and warm, becoming cloudy with isolated showers along the coast in the late afternoon. Coastal winds light to moderate westerly to south-westerly.
  • Eastern Half of the Eastern Cape: Morning fog in places in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm. Hot over the interior, with isolated thunderstorms in the north-east. Cloudy with isolated showers along the coast and adjacent interior in the evening. Coastal winds light north-easterly, becoming moderate south-westerly from the afternoon.
  • KwaZulu-Natal: Partly cloudy to cloudy and warm, but hot in the north with isolated showers and thundershowers except in the extreme north. Coastal winds moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly, becoming south-westerly in the south in the late afternoon. UVB Index: Very High
