The fire was captured in video footage that surfaced on social media. The cause of the fire and potential injuries are still to be determined, as well as the full extent of the damage.

Interestingly, this fire incident occurred concurrently with another major fire at Springfield Park China Mall, located approximately 13km away. Whether these two incidents are connected remains uncertain.

The eThekwini Fire Department, led by Division Commander Bheki Hadebe, responded to the blaze at Springfield Park China Mall around 01:00 on Wednesday.

After more than six hours of battling the fire, it was finally contained by 07:20. Despite the intense efforts, the Phoenix Industrial Park suffered significant damage.

There were no serious injuries or fatalities reported and only one wing of the Springfield Park China Mall was affected, according to Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

SAPS units from Newlands West, Greenwood Park, and Sydenham played a vital role in maintaining order and preventing potential looting during the chaos caused by the fire.

Investigations into the causes of both fires are underway. The relation, if any, between the Phoenix Industrial Park fire and the Springfield Park China Mall fire is still being explored.
