Media-specific viewings will take place on Monday, 23 June and Monday, 30 June 2025.

Attendees must bring valid identification to access the premises.

The auction requires a 15% deposit of the purchase price and a buyer’s commission of 7% plus VAT, both payable immediately after the auction (on the “fall of the hammer”).

If the offer is not accepted by the business rescue practitioners, the deposit and commission are refundable.

The properties will be sold unfurnished, although furniture will be auctioned separately.

Notably, the properties are unoccupied but still furnished, suggesting the previous residents had time to vacate and take personal belongings.

The Gupta family, originally from India, became central figures in one of South Africa’s biggest political scandals, often referred to as “state capture.” The term describes the alleged undue influence the family exerted over key government institutions and senior officials, including former President Jacob Zuma.

The Guptas were accused of using their close relationship with Zuma to gain lucrative government contracts and influence political appointments. These allegations were detailed in the 2022 Zondo Commission report, which recommended criminal investigations into several individuals and companies linked to the family.

Following mounting legal pressure, the Guptas fled South Africa in the mid-2010s.

Their Saxonwold properties, once symbolic of their wealth and political connections, are now being liquidated as part of ongoing legal and financial proceedings.
