CCTV footage of Maria ‘La Mona’ Estupinan shooting surfaces online

Maria Jose Estupinan, known online as ‘La Mona,’ was shot outside her home in Cucuta, Colombia, just a day after reportedly winning a domestic abuse case.

Shocking CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment Colombian influencer Maria Jose Estupinan — widely known as “La Mona” — was gunned down outside her home in Cucuta, Norte de Santander.

What happened to Maria ‘La Mona’ Estupinan?

The 22-year-old university student was attacked earlier this week by a man posing as a gift bearer.

According to reports, the suspect approached La Mona’s home in the La Riviera neighbourhood carrying a box of chocolates. After she accepted the gesture and took a piece, the man pulled out a firearm and opened fire at close range.

The chilling video footage, captured by surveillance cameras, shows the suspect fleeing the scene on foot. Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots followed by screams. La Mona was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

Cucuta Metropolitan Police District One Commander, Colonel Leonardo Capacho, confirmed that authorities are actively investigating the killing. The attacker has been described as “a man in a black cap, jacket, and jeans, carrying a backpack.”

While the motive has not yet been officially confirmed, reports from Canal TRO suggest the killing may be connected to a legal dispute. Just one day before her death, La Mona reportedly won a domestic abuse case against her former boyfriend.

She had been awarded a 30 million COP settlement — roughly equivalent to around R129,000 or $7,000.

The same former partner is now being investigated as a person of interest, although no arrests have been made as of yet.
