Bonang Matheba scores win in ‘Rea Gopane’ defamation case

Bonang Matheba wants Rea Gopane to run up her coins.

Media magnate Bonang Matheba will laugh all the way to the bank, to empty out Rea Gopane’s savings, after scoring a victory in her defamation case.

Here’s how much Rea Gopane owes Bonang Matheba

Matheba, who has since relocated to South Africa, took to social media on Friday to celebrate her victory in a series of tweets.

Without revealing too much about the judgment, Matheba confirmed that the punitive damages she was awarded amount to R300 000, a hefty price to pay for being ignorant in the name of clout.

The first place Matheba’s lawyers will go searching for cash is Gopane’s business account. The founder of the popular media platform Everything SA Music has more than 12.6K subscribers on YouTube and 234K Instagram followers.

While he may claim, for instance, to not have the full sum of the punitive charge, Matheba could be within her rights to schedule a payment plan with the young media persona, locking him into a highly avoidable debt agreement with someone who may not necessarily need the money — it’s just a matter of principle, at this point.

In May 2021, Gopane found himself in a legal quagmire when, on an episode of his podcast, he wildly accused Matheba of hooking her ex-boyfriend Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes to cocaine.

The young broadcaster was offered an opportunity to skirt legal trouble and was asked to issue a public apology. However, he refused and, instead, doubled-down on his untested claims.
