Body of mutilated man found along R37 Limpopo: Here’s what we know

On Saturday, 8 June 2024, a gruesome discovery was made along the R37 Road near a fuel station in the Burgersfort policing area of Limpopo.

According to provincial spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, at approximately 13:30, local police and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived at the scene to find the naked body of a man with severe injuries to his face and lower body.

The victim was found mutilated, with several body parts missing.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the brutal act and ordered an urgent manhunt to track down the suspects responsible for the heinous crime.

“I have ordered a team of investigators to get to the bottom of this brutal and senseless killing. We will work tirelessly to ensure that perpetrators behind this incident are tracked down and apprehended,” Lieutenant General Hadebe said in a statement.

The police were alerted to the scene following reports from passersby, and upon their arrival, they confirmed the victim had already succumbed to his injuries.

Here’s what police know about the victim

According to initial reports, the deceased was staying with his nephew in the local area.

The nephew last saw his uncle on Friday, 7 June 2024, at around 14:00, when the victim mentioned he was going to visit his girlfriend, whose identity remains unknown.

The victim’s identity has been withheld pending further police investigations.

The motive behind the murder remains unclear, and the police are calling on the public for assistance. They have urged anyone with information related to the incident to contact authorities immediately.

“We appeal to the community members to come forward with any information that can assist the Police to arrest the suspects involved,” the Lieutenant General said.
